Job summary

The City of Deerfield Beach is seeking a dedicated Ocean Rescue professional to provide specialized rescue services on designated public beaches, enforce swimming regulations, and administer first aid when necessary.

This role works independently under limited supervision, with duties including lifesaving, evaluating swimmer safety, and following city ordinances. Applicants must meet education and certification requirements and pass rescue skill tests.

Qualifications

  • High School Graduation or GED equivalent.
  • Must possess and maintain a valid state driver’s license with an acceptable driving history.
  • CPR Certification. First Aid Certification.
  • Must pass swimming and rescue skill test.
  • Must be enrolled in a First Responder Course by completion of the probationary period.
  • Completion of 40-hour USLA Lifeguard Training or must complete training upon hire.

Responsibilities

  • Provide specialized ocean rescue service at assigned beaches and enforce swimming regulations.
  • Rescue individuals in distress and administer first aid when necessary.
  • Maintain knowledge of local/state water safety rules and city ordinances.
  • Work independently under limited supervision and report major activities through meetings.

Job description

The purpose of this position is to provide specialized ocean rescue service at assigned public beaches, protect lives and enforce swimming regulations. Responsible for maintaining safe swimming regulation, enforce established regulations, rescuing individuals who are in distress and administering first aid when necessary.

This class works independently, under limited supervision, reporting major activities through periodic meetings.

Theessentialfunctionslistedbelowarethosethatrepresentthemajorityofthetimespent working in this class. Management may assign additional functions related to the type of work of the class as necessary.
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements
  • HighSchoolGraduationorGEDequivalent.
  • Mustpossessandmaintainavalidstatedriver’slicensewithanacceptabledrivinghistory.
  • CPR Certification. First Aide Certification.
  • Mustpassswimmingandrescueskillstest.
  • Must be enrolled in a First Responder Course by completion of the probationary period.

Physical Demands
