Job summary

People Freight | Freight Forwarding & Logistics Recruitment Specialists seeks an experienced Ocean Export/Import Supervisor in New York, NY. The role oversees day-to-day ocean operations and leads a growing team, with a salary up to $80,000.

You will supervise shipments from booking to delivery, manage Bills of Lading and invoices, coordinate with steamship lines and customs brokers, and drive process improvements while ensuring regulatory compliance.

Qualifications

• 3+ years of U.S. freight forwarding experience with ocean import/export knowledge.
• Previous supervisory or team lead experience in freight forwarding.
• Strong understanding of ocean freight documentation and procedures.
• Experience with steamship lines, NVOCCs, overseas agents and trucking providers.
• Excellent organizational and problem‑solving skills.
• Strong customer service and communication abilities.

Responsibilities

• Supervise and support the day-to-day Ocean Export & Import operations team.
• Oversee shipments from booking through final delivery, ensuring accurate and timely execution.
• Manage ocean import/export documentation, including Bills of Lading, commercial invoices, packing lists and arrival notices.
• Coordinate with steamship lines, NVOCCs, overseas agents, customs brokers, trucking companies and customers.
• Monitor shipment status and proactively resolve operational issues, delays and exceptions.
• Ensure accurate data entry, documentation and system updates throughout the shipment lifecycle.
• Assist with rate requests, quotations and customer inquiries when required.
• Monitor team performance, workflow and service levels.
• Train, mentor and support team members while helping to improve operational processes.
• Ensure compliance with company procedures and U.S. import/export regulations.
• Maintain strong relationships with customers and overseas offices/agents.
