Job Description

Occupational Therapist

Reporting to the K-12 SPED Coordinator, the Occupational Therapist works with the IEP team to assist students in the development of/or compensation for deficits in foundation skills needed for school participation (e.g., fine motor skills, sensory motor skills, visual motor skills, visual perception skills, and self-care skills).

Reporting Relationships:

Reports to: K-12 SPED Coordinator

Direct Reports: This is a non-supervisory position.

Compensation:

This is a full-time, 10-month position. Essential Functions:

  • Screen, test, and diagnose students per requests via RtI process, other identified processes.
  • Develop student IEP for present level of function, including frequency, duration, goals, and objectives.
  • Manage and conduct therapy for identified students.
  • Work collaboratively with educational support staff where support is needed. Serves on the RtI and other relevant intervention teams.
  • Communicate and collaborate with school personnel and parents as needed.
  • Adhere to State and Federal regulations.
  • Plan and oversee the Occupational Language program/process.

Other tasks and duties:

Manage and conduct therapy

  • Develops a caseload management model to facilitate efficient and adequate services to students.
  • Implements a plan most appropriate to individual student’s needs.
  • Implements and maintains therapy schedule and list of students. Maintains up-to-date data and provides reports.
  • Provides on-the-spot interventions as necessary to meet the needs of the student in a less restrictive environment.
  • Makes recommendations and referrals for audiological / speech / medical services.
  • Mentors undergraduate interns and paraprofessionals as necessary.

Student Recordkeeping

  • Keeps those records necessary to complete the various forms and information required by the school, CSI, or Colorado Department of Education.
  • Assesses the accomplishments of students on a regular basis and provides progress reports as required.
  • Maintains current records and data in the designated student information system (e.g. Alpine Achievement System).

General Abilities, Knowledge, Qualifications, and Skills:

  • Master’s degree in Occupational Therapy required.
  • License in the State of Colorado.
  • Bi-Lingual – English / Spanish preferred.
  • Previous K-12 school experience preferred
  • Familiarity with a variety of community resources and agencies

Working Conditions:

Exposure/Noise Level: Occasional exposure to airborne particles, fumes, and outdoor weather conditions. Normal school environment with moderate to high noise level.

Mental Functions: Analyze, collaboration, communicate, compare, compilation of data, compute, coordinate, copy, direct, evaluate, instruct, interpersonal skills, present, report, synthesize.

Physical Activities: Office and classroom environment including computer interface. Bend, reach, sit, stand, stoop, talk, walk, and heavy person-to-person interaction with students and colleagues.

Weight and Force Demands: Moderate physical activity (lifting, pulling, and pushing up to 25 pounds).

Other: May be required to work outside of normal working hours and travel for work related functions.
