Job summary

Oakland Schools is seeking a qualified Occupational Therapist to support students in developing functional skills in the educational setting. The OT will provide evaluation, intervention, consultation, and support services to students with identified needs and collaborate with staff, families, and support personnel to enhance student achievement and independence.

Valid Michigan OT license and strong knowledge of school-based practice are required. Start Fall 2026.

Qualifications

• Valid Michigan OT license and registration.
• Knowledge of school-based OT assessment tools and intervention techniques.
• Understanding of special education laws, procedures, and compliance requirements.
• Ability to collaborate with students, staff, families, and outside agencies.
• Strong interpersonal, organizational, oral, and written communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Conduct occupational therapy evaluations and assessments for referred students.
• Develop and implement individualized therapy goals and intervention plans.
• Provide direct occupational therapy services to students as outlined in IEPs.
• Prepare written evaluation reports and maintain required documentation.
• Collaborate with teachers, parents, administrators, and related service providers.
• Recommend adaptive equipment, accommodations, and strategies to support student participation and independence.
• Attend METs, IEP meetings, child study meetings, and staff meetings as requested.
• Monitor student progress and adjust interventions as appropriate.

QUALIFICATIONS

ESSENTIAL DUTIES

• Maintain current knowledge of occupational therapy practices, research, and educational requirements


• Perform other duties as assigned by the Principal and/or Director of Specialized Student Services

RESPONSIBILITIES

• Support students in developing fine motor, sensory, self-help, and functional skills related to school performance


• Maintain ongoing communication with parents/guardians regarding student progress


• Consult with staff regarding classroom modifications and intervention strategies


• Maintain therapy schedules and service logs


• Ensure compliance with district, state, and federal special education requirements


• Participate in professional development opportunities and educational committees
