Job summary

OpenLoop is seeking an Observability Engineer to build our observability practice from scratch, crafting dashboards and alerts that keep SaaS and internal tools visible and reliable.

You'll instrument systems in Datadog, own PagerDuty escalation, and create lightweight integrations where visibility is missing, driving end-to-end process resilience across the company.

Qualifications

• 3+ years of experience building observability functions such as dashboards, monitors and alerting.
• Hands-on experience with Datadog.
• Hands-on experience with PagerDuty.
• Scripting and API experience (e.g., Python) to pull logs/data from systems without native integrations.
• Track record of building observability/monitoring where little existed before.

Responsibilities

• Build the observability practice. Define what we monitor and how we alert.
• Instrument systems in Datadog with dashboards and monitors for availability and performance.
• Own alerting and escalation in PagerDuty to route issues quickly with minimal noise.
• Create visibility where none exists by pulling logs, using APIs, and lightweight integrations.
• Monitor end-to-end business processes across multiple systems to see process failures.
• Partner with IT Service Management to feed observability into incident response and change validation.
• Automate and iterate using scripting and AI-assisted development.
