Job summary

AbbVie Inc. is seeking a Principal Scientist to advance the obesity pipeline by leading external innovation and diligence efforts.

The role focuses on identifying novel targets via literature reviews and coordinating cross-functional teams across neuroscience, immunology, and obesity disciplines. The candidate will analyze preclinical data, coordinate PoC studies with CROs and academic labs, and prepare detailed reports and presentations.

Qualifications

PhD in neuroscience, biology or related field with post-doctoral training.
6+ years of independent research in academic or industry settings.
Expertise in obesity-related CNS regulation and energy metabolism.
Proven peer-reviewed publications.
Proficient with AI tools and data analysis software.
Capable of presenting at international conferences.
Strong communication and organizational skills.
Ability to manage time and work independently.
Experience with cross-functional project work is a plus.

Responsibilities

Support external collaborations and licensing to diversify AbbVie's obesity pipeline, leading Obesity Discovery in diligence teams.
Conduct literature and intelligence reviews to identify approaches for obesity target discovery.
Lead cross-functional teams to expand obesity targets into neurology and immunology.
Coordinate in vitro/in vivo PoC studies with CROs and academic labs.
Analyze preclinical data and ensure scientific integrity across the process.
Prepare scientific reports and presentations on obesity assets.
Design MoA experiments and review protocols for late-stage assets.
Execute tasks with minimal supervision.
