Job summary

The Norton Healthcare OB Technician supports the surgical team during intra-operative patient care, primarily assisting with vaginal and cesarean deliveries under physician and nurse supervision.

Responsibilities include preparing the operating room, transporting patients, adjusting lighting, passing instruments, and counting sponges and needles while applying aseptic technique and medical terminology knowledge in interactions with patients and families.

Responsibilities

• The OB Technician assists other members of the healthcare team in the delivery of patient care during the intra-operative period.
• The major focus is assisting at vaginal and cesarean deliveries under supervision of physicians and registered nurses.
• Assist with setting up the operating room, preparing and transporting patients for surgery, and adjusting lights and equipment.
• Pass instruments and supplies to surgeons and assistants, hold retractors, and help count sponges, needles, supplies and instruments.
• Maintain basic knowledge of medical terminology, the metric system, and aseptic technique in all patient and family interactions.
