Job summary

UPMC in Sewickley, PA is seeking a Medical Assistant to support the University OB/GYN team. The role covers back and front office duties with daytime hours, no evenings or weekends.

Prior Medical Assistant experience is preferred to help maintain efficient daily operations and patient care in a collaborative, team-based environment. Applicants will be placed on the Medical Assistant Career Ladder based on experience and education.

Qualifications

• Medical Assistant experience or certification preferred.
• Back office and front office duties experience.
• Respect for HIPAA and patient confidentiality requirements.

Responsibilities

• Send/receive patient medical records in accordance with HIPAA and other regulations.
• Obtain lab/x-ray reports, hospital notes, referral information; schedule appointments; verify insurance and demographics; manage charts and filing.
• Prepare patient rooms and equipment; maintain infection control; manage inventory of supplies.
• Check schedules; assist patients with rooming, walking, transfers, and vitals; relay instructions to patients/families.
• Answer calls and provide patient education as directed.
• Perform phlebotomy, EKGs, and level one labs; assist physicians with procedures; document in medical record.
• Comply with OSHA, CLIA, PA Dept. of Health; maintain confidentiality; follow UPMC policies.
• Under supervision of a physician, administer injectable medications and vaccines when appropriate.
