Position Details

Position: Nutrition Service Assistant (Cook)

Position Guide: Non-Certified Personnel

Type: Full-Time 6 Hours or more

Bargaining Unit: Yes

Exempt Status: Non-Exempt

Duration: 9 Months

Function

Under supervision, the Food Service Assistant prepares high-quality meals, handles food prep, serving, cashier duties, dishwashing, cleaning, and catering as needed.

Salary and Benefits

In accordance with the collective bargaining agreement detailed in the Support Union Contract.

Experience

• Maximum 5 years full-time experience in a high-volume institutional or commercial food service.

Reporting and Relations

• Reports to: Director of Nutrition Services, Nutrition Services Coordinator, Nutrition Services Supervisor.
• Related to: School Principal, Assistant Principal.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED.
• At least one year of production experience in a high-volume food service.
• Knowledge of institutional recipes, production methods, and kitchen equipment.
• Fluent in English reading, writing, and speaking.
• Current Will County sanitation certificate or ability to obtain within a year.
• Physical ability to perform all duties.
• Ability to work efficiently and cooperatively.

Responsibilities

• Food preparation, safety, sanitation, and equipment operation.
• Work in various settings including meal prep, serving, cashiering, cleaning, and catering.
• Follow recipes and safety procedures.
• Maintain sanitary conditions.
• Heavy lifting, standing, and working in extreme conditions.
• Effective communication and positive relations with staff and students.
• Other duties as assigned.

Physical Demands & Work Environment

Exposure to heat, noise, and potential hazards. Requires standing, lifting, and working in variable conditions. Reasonable accommodations available.
