Job Description

The Nutrition Service Supervisor supports management, planning, and coordination of activities of the Nutrition Services Department to provide nutritional services to patients, employees, and guests. The position implements policies and procedures to support administrative direction for cafeteria management, food preparation, distribution, service, purchasing, sanitation standards, safety practices, staffing, and staff development. Additionally, the Supervisor may assist the Dietitian with nutrition assessments if qualified.

The Supervisor is responsible for helping to create an environment and culture that enables the department to fulfill its mission by meeting or exceeding its goals. This position supports a culture that ensures the delivery of quality, equitable, and culturally competent patient-centered care; promotes an inclusive work environment that is respectful and accepting; and ensures ongoing cultural and sensitivity training for new employees to meet the needs of the patient population served.

Qualifications

  • CDM or Dietetic Technician registration with ADA if required by state or regulatory agency.
  • Current ADA membership if required by state or regulatory agency.

Education, Training, and Experience

  • Graduate of an associate degree program in food service. Must have knowledge of nutrition, dietetics, hospital food service operations, and H.A.C.C.P. guidelines.
  • Two years healthcare food service experience, preferably in a supervisory role.

Machines and Equipment Used

General office equipment such as telephone, copy machine, fax, calculator, and computer.

Physical Requirements

  • Good visual acuity and communication skills.
  • Ability to lift, push/pull, and retrieve objects regularly, including lifting up to 50 pounds and pushing/pulling up to 150 pounds with assistance.
  • Ability to retrieve objects from above the head up to 50 pounds.
  • Prolonged standing and walking.
  • Reaching, stooping, bending, kneeling, and crouching as needed for patient care and equipment setup.

Compliance

  • Adheres to the company's Standards of Business Conduct.
  • Maintains current licensure and/or certifications, if applicable.

Skills and Abilities

  • Effective communication skills (reading, writing, speaking).
  • Ability to analyze, observe, decide, and meet deadlines in a detail-oriented manner.
  • Ability to work independently.

Environmental Conditions

  • Indoor, temperature-controlled, smoke-free environment with occasional outdoor exposure.
  • Potential exposure to blood and body fluids.
  • Accessible for handicapped individuals.
  • Possible wet surfaces, sharp objects, high noise levels, and temperature extremes.
  • May work under stressful circumstances.

Proficiency or Productivity Standards

  • Meets attendance standards.
  • Follows hospital/department dress code, including wearing ID badge.
  • May work varying shifts, including weekends, evenings, nights, and holidays, as needed.
  • Available for disaster response and recovery efforts.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
