This position provides direct patient meal service, including obtaining meal selections in person or via the hospitality center ordering system, delivering meals, and retrieving meal trays. Knowledge of special diets and allergies is required. Maintaining cleanliness of nutrition centers in patient care areas is also necessary. Excellent customer service skills and concern for patient safety are crucial.

Minimum Qualifications

EDUCATION, CERTIFICATION, AND/OR LICENSURE:

• Must have a valid Food Service Worker Permit (FSWP) from Monongalia County Health Department (MCHD) prior to starting or obtain a temporary permit no later than the first Wednesday of employment, and a permanent permit within 1 month of start date. Must maintain a valid permit throughout employment. Until a temporary permit is obtained: May not handle exposed food or contact surfaces, but can be trained on tray delivery and complete general orientation.

• High School Diploma or Equivalent preferred.

Core Duties and Responsibilities

The following statements describe the general nature of work performed by individuals in this position. They are not exhaustive, and other duties may be assigned.

• Answer patient phone calls following customer service standards.
• Follow diet restrictions, including allergies and fluid restrictions.
• Use EPIC and VST to access patient information and process menu requests.
• Process nourishment orders and print for kitchen staff.
• Follow procedures for missed meal reports, including alerting nursing.
• Deliver or retrieve meal trays as needed.
• Assist patients designated as needing help with menu selections and enter orders accordingly.
• Deliver meal trays within service time guidelines.
• Follow delivery standards, including hand sanitization, infection control, patient identification, and communication protocols.
• Check trays for missing items and correct issues immediately. Maintain supply of condiments.
• Record information for calorie counts as required.
• Monitor new patients' understanding of room service, provide menus, and explain as needed.
• Establish and maintain rapport with nursing staff, receiving positive feedback.
• Collaborate as a team with Clinical Dietitians, respecting their primary role.
• Communicate patient requests clearly to tray line and production staff.
• Adhere to sanitation, safety, and quality guidelines per departmental policies, health regulations, and HACCP standards.
• Collect and return patient trays to the kitchen promptly.
• Assist in other tasks such as wrapping silverware or dishroom duties when waiting.
• Follow procedures for phone and iPad use.
• Perform other duties as assigned, possibly including duties of a dietetic assistant.
• Meet daily deadlines for menu completion and meal delivery.

Physical Requirements

• Ability to push a fully loaded tray cart (~250 lbs).
• Ability to stand most of the workday.

Working Environment

• Interact with patients, including those in distressing conditions.
• Enter isolation rooms with proper protective equipment.
• Work in a noisy kitchen environment.

Skills and Abilities

• Ability to understand written and oral communication.

Day shift from 5:30 am to 2 pm, with rotating weekends and holidays. Scheduled weekly hours: 40. Shift type: Day. Employment status: Non-Exempt.
