Job Title: Nutanix & VMware Infrastructure Engineer
Work Location: 100% Onsite (5 days per week) - New York, NY
Pay Range: $70-$80/hr D.O.E.
Duration: 12+ Months

Position Overview

We are seeking an experienced Nutanix & VMware Infrastructure Engineer to design, administer, migrate, and support enterprise virtualization, server, storage, and infrastructure environments.

This role has a strong focus on Nutanix administration, Nutanix AHV, and VMware vSphere-to-Nutanix AHV migrations. The ideal candidate is a hands-on infrastructure engineer who has personally deployed and managed Nutanix clusters and can successfully plan and execute enterprise VMware workload migrations.

The engineer will also support Windows and Linux servers, Active Directory, infrastructure monitoring, patching, backup and disaster recovery, networking, automation, and troubleshooting within a highly available, operationally critical environment.

Key Responsibilities:

• Design, deploy, administer, monitor, and troubleshoot enterprise Nutanix clusters and Nutanix AHV environments.
• Plan and execute VMware vSphere-to-Nutanix AHV migrations, following established migration and infrastructure best practices.
• Assess existing VMware environments and develop migration plans addressing workloads, dependencies, capacity, availability, and operational risk.
• Design, implement, and support both VMware vSphere and Nutanix virtualization environments.
• Troubleshoot complex hypervisor, virtual machine, storage, networking, performance, and availability issues.
• Perform hypervisor upgrades, lifecycle management, patching, and migration activities.
• Administer enterprise Windows Server and Linux operating systems.
• Support Active Directory, Group Policy, domains, backup, recovery, file systems, services, and server configurations.
• Monitor infrastructure health, capacity, availability, and performance and proactively address potential issues.
• Analyze system performance data, establish baselines, identify bottlenecks, and recommend infrastructure improvements.
• Perform operating system, hypervisor, firmware, and infrastructure-component patching and upgrades.Support dark-site/offline Nutanix AHV patching in restricted or isolated environments when required.
• Implement and maintain system backup, recovery, restoration, and disaster recovery processes.
• Troubleshoot infrastructure issues involving DHCP, DNS, routing, firewalls, IP networking, storage, and RAID configurations.
• Apply infrastructure security principles including ACLs, authentication, authorization, encryption, system hardening, and access controls.
• Partner with networking and cybersecurity teams to resolve cross-platform infrastructure issues.
• Develop automation and administrative scripts using PowerShell, Bash, KSH, Perl, or comparable scripting technologies.
• Maintain technical documentation covering architecture, system configurations, migrations, troubleshooting procedures, and operational processes.
• Participate in after-hours support, emergency response, scheduled maintenance, and on-call activities as needed.

Required Skills/Education:

• Bachelor's degree in Information Technology or a related discipline, or equivalent relevant professional experience.
• 5+ years of IT infrastructure, systems engineering, or enterprise support experience.
• Strong, recent hands-on Nutanix administration and engineering experience.
• Demonstrated experience deploying, configuring, managing, monitoring, and troubleshooting Nutanix clusters.
• In-depth knowledge of Nutanix AHV and hypervisor migration best practices.
• Hands-on experience migrating enterprise VMware vSphere workloads to Nutanix AHV.
• Experience designing and implementing both VMware vSphere and Nutanix environments.
• Strong Windows Server and Linux systems administration experience.
• Experience supporting Active Directory, Group Policy, domains, backup, and recovery.
• Strong knowledge of virtualization, enterprise server infrastructure, storage, and RAID configurations.
• Experience monitoring infrastructure availability, capacity, health, and performance.
• Strong troubleshooting experience across servers, hypervisors, storage, operating systems, and networking.
• Experience with infrastructure patching, firmware upgrades, and lifecycle management.
• Experience with disaster recovery, system backups, restoration, and business continuity practices.
• Working knowledge of DHCP, DNS, routing, firewalls, and IP networking.
• Scripting and automation experience using PowerShell, Bash, KSH, Perl, or similar technologies.
• Strong communication, documentation, organization, troubleshooting, and customer-service skills.
• Ability to provide after-hours/on-call support and work flexible hours for critical issues and scheduled maintenance.
• Ability to travel to supported locations when necessary.
• Valid driver's license.
• Ability to lift and transport server and infrastructure equipment when required.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience performing dark-site or offline patching of Nutanix AHV and related infrastructure components.
• Experience with Industrial Defender for infrastructure security monitoring or system baselining.
• Knowledge of NERC CIP compliance within data center, utility, energy, or critical infrastructure environments.
• Advanced PowerShell or infrastructure automation experience.
• Ability to interpret, modify, and develop scripts and SQL queries.
• Experience supporting highly available, regulated, operationally critical, or mission-critical infrastructure environments.
