Shirley Ryan AbilityLab in Chicago, IL seeks a Unit Assistant to perform routine clerical duties in a nursing unit, handling admissions, discharges, calls, and data entry in the EMR system. You will greet patients, relay messages and assist in coordinating transportation.

The role requires strong organizational and communication skills, proficiency with basic computer software, and the ability to work with a multidisciplinary team in a fast-paced hospital environment.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or 1-2 years of college or other post high school training or equivalent experience.
• Proficiency in keyboarding and basic computer PC software and office equipment.
• Good verbal and written communication and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to prioritize tasks and work in a fast-paced setting.

Responsibilities

• Performs reception activities including answering phones and routing mail.
• Manages admissions/discharge paperwork and patient consent processes within 24 hours.
• Enters data into the EMR and coordinates transportation as needed.
• Supports nurse manager and orientates new staff in station procedures.
