Job summary

Valley Health in Virginia is seeking an experienced RN to oversee patient care delivery when Nursing Directors are not in the hospital. You will circle nursing units, coach staff, and act as a patient advocate while coordinating with support departments to resolve issues.

Required BSN or equivalent, RN license, and BLS certification; 5 years in acute/critical/ED care with 2 years in leadership preferred. Multi-state/licensure options per Virginia regulations.

Qualifications

• RN Nursing License required.
• BLS Certification (Basic Life Support) – AHA Healthcare Provider required.
• Graduate of an accredited nursing program required.
• 5 years acute care/critical care/ED nursing experience preferred; 2 years in leadership preferred.
• Virginia Board of Nursing licensure requirements: multi-state or Virginia-only license consideration.

Job Description

This position is accountable for oversight of patient care delivery whenever the Nursing Directors are not in the hospital. This RN makes rounds to the nursing units, collaborates with staff to solve clinical and staffing issues, addresses and documents practice variations and staff non-compliance to HR policies. Nursing metrics are assessed and staff coached/mentored to improve outcomes when deficits are identified. This RN also serves as a patient advocate, communicates with support departments as appropriate to resolve issues. Following the chain of command, communicates appropriate issues to AOC, Nursing Leadership, and Ancillary Departments.

Education
Bachelors Nursing Required or BSN completed within 5 years of hire.
Additional Educational Requirements
Graduate of an accredited nursing program required.

Experience
5 years acute care, critical care, ED nursing experience preferred; with 2 years demonstrated in leadership responsibilities preferred

Certification & Licensures
RN Nursing License required *

BLS Certification (Basic Life Support) - American Heart ‘Healthcare Provider’ (HCP) - AHA approved required **
Additional Certification/Licensure Requirements
* Based on primary state of residency and in accordance with current Virginia Board of Nursing Regulations, must be licensed or eligible to practice pending licensure as a Registered Nurse in the Commonwealth of Virginia with either a: Multi-state license, under the Nurse Licensure Compact OR Single-state license, valid in Virginia only.
** New hires must have American Heart Association (AHA) appropriate certification prior to completion of orientation.

Qualifications
Knowledgeable in the cognitive, physical, emotional and chronological stages of human growth and development. Competent to provide assessment, care and treatment appropriate to the age group of patients served. Acts as notary public by notarizing wills, power of attorney or witness of documents as needed.
