Nursing Supervisor
Position Overview
We are seeking an experienced Registered Nurse (RN) with nursing management or supervisory experience to join our team as a full-time Nursing Supervisor. This position provides clinical leadership and oversight during the overnight shift, ensuring residents receive safe, high-quality care while supporting and guiding nursing staff.
The Nursing Supervisor will supervise nursing personnel, monitor resident care, conduct clinical rounds, respond to changes in residents' conditions, and provide clinical guidance throughout the shift. Experience in long-term care, skilled nursing, short-term rehabilitation, or a similar healthcare setting is preferred.
Schedule & Coverage
- Full-time, on-site position.
- Overnight schedule: 11:00 p.m.-7:00 a.m., Monday through Friday.
- No regularly scheduled weekend shifts.
- Participation in a nursing on-call rotation, approximately one week every eight weeks, including the weekend within the assigned rotation.
Key Responsibilities
Nursing Leadership & Supervision
- Supervise and provide clinical direction to Licensed Practical Nurses (LPNs), Licensed Nursing Assistants (LNAs), Licensed Medication Nursing Assistants (LMNAs), and other assigned nursing staff.
- Provide leadership, guidance, and support to nursing staff throughout the overnight shift.
- Promote teamwork, accountability, and adherence to established standards of resident care.
- Support staff in addressing clinical concerns and changes in resident condition.
Resident Care & Clinical Oversight
- Monitor resident care and ensure nursing services are provided safely, appropriately, and in accordance with established care plans and standards.
- Conduct clinical rounds on assigned units throughout the shift.
- Assess changes in residents' conditions and determine appropriate interventions.
- Recognize clinical emergencies, respond promptly, initiate appropriate interventions, and notify nursing leadership or other appropriate healthcare professionals as required.
- Communicate relevant resident and clinical information to the appropriate members of the care team.
Shift Communication & Reporting
- Receive and provide shift reports with licensed nurses, LNAs, LMNAs, and other appropriate staff at the beginning and end of each shift.
- Ensure important clinical information, changes in condition, incidents, and follow-up needs are communicated accurately.
- Maintain clear and timely documentation in accordance with facility policies and regulatory requirements.
Medication & Controlled Substance Management
- Perform controlled substance counts at the beginning and end of each shift in accordance with established procedures.
- Complete and sign required narcotic documentation.
- Immediately report any medication or controlled substance discrepancies to the appropriate leadership personnel.
- Follow all applicable medication management policies, procedures, and safety standards.
Compliance & Professional Standards
- Follow established policies, procedures, clinical guidelines, and standards of care.
- Maintain compliance with applicable federal and state regulations and professional nursing standards.
- Protect the privacy and confidentiality of resident information at all times.
- Promote a safe, respectful, and resident-centered environment.
Required Qualifications
- Graduate of an accredited nursing program.
- Current Registered Nurse (RN) license in good standing with the applicable state Board of Nursing.
- Prior nursing management or supervisory experience, including responsibility for overseeing nursing staff and providing clinical guidance.
- Strong clinical assessment, communication, leadership, and decision-making skills.
- Ability to respond effectively to emergencies and changes in residents' conditions.
- Ability to maintain an active RN license in good standing throughout employment.
- Ability to work full-time, on-site overnight shifts and participate in the required on-call rotation.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in long-term care, skilled nursing, short-term rehabilitation, post-acute care, or a nursing home setting.
- Previous experience supervising nurses, LNAs, LMNAs, or other direct-care staff.
- Experience conducting clinical rounds and monitoring resident care.
- Experience coordinating shift reports and managing overnight clinical operations.
- Experience responding to changes in residents' conditions and coordinating appropriate interventions.
- Strong staff coaching, mentoring, teamwork, and conflict-resolution skills.
- Familiarity with long-term care regulations, documentation requirements, medication management, and quality-of-care standards.
