Job summary

MLK Community Healthcare invites applications for a Student Nurse Extern (SNE). Under RN supervision, you will assist in delivering safe, timely care and participate in hospital-wide quality initiatives.

The program is designed to run for up to 12 months from the start date. Responsibilities include vital sign collection, patient assistance with daily activities, documentation, and reporting changes to the RN.

Qualifications

• Final year of accredited BSN program with GPA 2.5/4.0 or better.
• Must be enrolled and remain enrolled in nursing school for the duration of the role.
• Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
• Must complete Workplace Violence Prevention Program within 30 days of hire.
• Understanding of anatomy, medical terminology, and rehabilitation principles is desirable.

Responsibilities

• Assist in the provision of high‑quality patient care under RN supervision.
• Record vital signs and report abnormal values to the RN.
• Support activities of daily living and patient hygiene.
• Perform basic nursing tasks and follow care plans under supervision.
• Attend didactic sessions and shadowing opportunities in the SNI program.
