Job summary

MLK Community Healthcare in Los Angeles is seeking a Student Nurse Extern (SNE) to assist in safe, high‑quality patient care under RN supervision. The program is not to exceed 12 months from start date and aligns with MLKCH core values.

You will perform basic nursing tasks, monitor vitals, support daily living activities, document care, and participate in didactic sessions and shadowing as defined in the SNI Program Curriculum.

Qualifications

• Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
• Must complete annual Workplace Violence Prevention Program/Certificate within 30 days of hire.
• Understanding of human anatomy and basic medical terminology is desirable.

Responsibilities

• Obtains verbal patient handoffs and clarifies care needs with the RN.
• Reviews EHR for care elements, diet, isolation, intake/output.
• Records vital signs and reports abnormalities to the RN.
• Performs and documents blood glucose testing as ordered and reports results.
• Assists patients with activities of daily living and documentation of care.
• Performs perineal/indwelling urinary catheter care as directed.
• Participates in hourly rounding and maintains a safe patient environment.
