Job summary

Fairview Health Services is seeking a Nursing Station Technician for the M Health Fairview Southdale Hospital in Edina, MN. This role is a day-shift, 12-hour shifts, 60 hours every two weeks, with every third weekend, offering a comprehensive benefits package.

The job combines Nursing Assistant and Health Unit Coordinator duties in a fast-paced Intermediate Care Unit, requiring strong teamwork, communication, and patient care skills.

Qualifications

• BLS certification required; ability to obtain BLS for Healthcare Providers upon completion of OnTrack program (OnTrack).
• Completion of Fairview’s OnTrack Nursing Assistant training program or another Fairview-sponsored Nursing Assistant program.
• Six months of direct care experience in long-term, home care or acute care setting.
• Current enrollment in an LPN, RN or Nurse Practitioner program, with at least one clinical rotation completed.
• Current Minnesota Nursing Assistant Registry certification upon hire (not required to be maintained for career transfer).

Responsibilities

• Assist professional caregiver in patient care delivery, transport patients/equipment, and prepare rooms.
• Perform clerical, transcription, and desk area tasks on the patient care unit.
• Coordinate communication flow on the unit; work under supervision of a nurse.

Job Overview

Fairview is looking for a Nursing Station Technician at the M Health Fairview Southdale Hospital in Edina, MN! This position is 60 hours every two weeks on the Day shift, for 12 hour shifts, and every third weekend, and is eligible for benefits such as medical, dental, and more.

About this Unit:

The Intermediate Care Unit (IMC) at M Health Fairview Southdale Hospital is a fast-paced 30-bed surgical specialty unit focused on delivering patient-centered care through strong multidisciplinary collaboration. The team manages a diverse mix of complex surgical and medical patients, including those recovering from vascular, thoracic, and open-heart procedures, as well as cardiac and respiratory cases requiring advanced monitoring. With telemetry capabilities and a progressive training approach, this unit offers a supportive environment for both RNs and nursing support staff to grow their skills and thrive in high-acuity care.

Job Responsibilities

The Nursing Station Technician is responsible for assisting the professional caregiver in the delivery of patient care, transporting patient and / or equipment, setting up and maintaining patient rooms, reordering, and stocking supplies. Performs a wide range of clerical, transcription, and maintenance of patient care unit desk area functions. Coordinates the flow of communication on a patient care unit. The NST does not work autonomously but under the direction of the professional nurse. They may or may not be given a patient care assignment based on unit needs and the discretion of the manager / charge nurse.

The Nursing Station Technician is a hybrid position consisting of both Nursing Assistant and Health Unit Coordinator roles to deliver direct patient care and administrative duties.

In this role, you will work under the direct supervision of a professional nurse to demonstrate excellent customer service, teamwork and communication skills with patients, families, and the healthcare team on a fast paced unit.

Other job duties include:

• Patient care such as personal hygiene, vitals, daily activities, repositioning, transporting, and feeding
• Maintaining unit desk area functions such as answering phones, processing admissions, discharging and transferring forms, transcribing orders, assembling patient charts and ordering tests
• Setting up and maintaining patient rooms
• Ordering and stocking of supplies

Performs other tasks as needed.

Required Qualifications

License/Certification/Registration

• Basic Life Support (BLS for Healthcare Providers) certification required. Ontrack participants much be able to obtain Basic Life Support for Healthcare Providers certification upon completion of the OnTrack program.

AND ONE or more of the following:

• Successful completion of Fairview’s OnTrack Nursing Assistant training program or another Fairview sponsored Nursing Assistant program.

Or

• Six months of recent direct care experience in a long term, home care or acute care setting. (Appropriate roles may include, Nursing Assistant, PCA, Resident Assistant or Emergency Room Technician)

Or

• Current enrollment in an LPN, RN or Nurse Practitioner program, and completion of one (1) semester of clinical rotation within the program.

Or

• Current certification on the Minnesota Nursing Assistant Registry upon hire. This requirement does not need to be maintained throughout employment and is not required if subsequently transferring into another Nursing Assistant or Nursing Station Tech or Nursing Station Attendant position.
