Job summary

Fairview Health Services is seeking a Nursing Station Technician at M Health Fairview Southdale Hospital in Edina, MN. This role is a day-shift, 12‑hour shifts, with every third weekend, and includes a comprehensive benefits package.

The NST combines Nursing Assistant and Health Unit Coordinator duties on a fast-paced Short Stay Unit, supporting nurses by coordinating patient care, room setup, and supply management while delivering courteous, high‑quality service to patients and families.

Qualifications

• BLS for Healthcare Providers certification is required or obtainable upon completion of the OnTrack program.
• OnTrack Nursing Assistant training or Fairview-sponsored Nursing Assistant program preferred.
• Six months of direct care experience in a long term, homecare or acute care setting acceptable.
• Current enrollment in an LPN/RN/Nurse Practitioner program with clinical rotation completed is acceptable.
• Current MN Nursing Assistant Registry certification at hire (not required to maintain after transfer).

Responsibilities

• Assist the professional caregiver in delivering patient care and transporting patients or equipment.
• Set up and maintain patient rooms and stock supplies; manage unit desk clerical tasks and communications.
• Coordinate flow of communication on the patient care unit under supervision of a licensed nurse.
• Perform hybrid Nursing Assistant and Health Unit Coordinator duties to support direct patient care and administrative tasks.
• Provide excellent customer service and teamwork on a fast-paced unit.

Fairview is looking for a Nursing Station Technician at the M Health Fairview Southdale Hospital in Edina, MN! This position is 72 hours every two weeks on the Day shift, for 12 hour shifts, and every third weekend and is eligible for benefits such as medical, dental, and more.

Job Responsibilities

The Nursing Station Technicianis responsible forassistingthe professional caregiver in the delivery of patient care, transporting patient and/or equipment, setting up and maintaining patient rooms, reordering, and stocking supplies. Performs a wide range of clerical, transcription, and maintenance of patient care unit desk area functions. Coordinates the flow of communication on a patient care unit. The NST does not work autonomously but under the direction of the professional nurse. They may or may not be given a patient care assignment based on unit needs and the discretion of the manager / charge nurse.

The Nursing Station Technician is a hybrid position consisting of both Nursing Assistant and Health Unit Coordinator roles to deliver direct patient care and administrative duties.

In this role, you will work under the direct supervision of a professional nurse todemonstrateexcellent customer service,teamworkand communication skills with patients, families, and the healthcare team on a fast paced unit.

Other job duties include:

• Patient care such as personal hygiene, vitals, daily activities, repositioning, transporting, and feeding

• Maintaining unit desk area functions such as answering phones, processing admissions, discharging and transferring forms, transcribing orders, assembling patient charts and ordering tests

• Setting up and maintaining patient rooms

• Ordering and stocking of supplies

Performs other tasks as needed.

Required Qualifications

License/Certification/Registration

• Basic Life Support (BLS for Healthcare Providers) certificationrequired.Ontrack participants must be able to obtain Basic Life Support for Healthcare Providers certification upon completion of the OnTrack program.

AND ONE or more of the following:

• Successful completion of Fairview’s OnTrack Nursing Assistant training program or another Fairview sponsored Nursing Assistant program.

Or

• Six months of recent direct care experience in a long term, homecareor acute care setting. (Appropriate roles may include, Nursing Assistant, PCA, Resident Assistant or Emergency Room Technician)

Or

• Current enrollment in an LPN, RN or Nurse Practitioner program, and completion of one (1) semester of clinical rotation within the program.

Or

• Current certification on the Minnesota Nursing Assistant Registry upon hire. This requirement does not need to be maintained throughout employment and is not required if subsequently transferring into another Nursing Assistant or Nursing Station Tech or Nursing Station Attendant position.
