Job summary

University of Minnesota Medical Center - East Bank Campus is seeking a Nursing Station Technician for the Cardiac Med/Surg IMC unit. The role blends Nursing Assistant and Health Unit Coordinator duties in a 0.3 FTE evening shift schedule (3pm-11:30pm) with every other weekend rotation.

You will work under a nurse to deliver direct patient care and administrative tasks, including patient care, charting, admissions/discharges, and room setup in a fast-paced unit.

Qualifications

• BLS certification required; OnTrack completion preferred.
• Six months of direct care experience in long term, home care or acute care setting.
• Enrollment in an LPN/RN/NP program or Minnesota Nursing Assistant Registry on hire is acceptable.

Responsibilities

• Provide patient care including personal hygiene, vitals, daily activities, positioning, transport and feeding.
• Maintain unit desk functions: answer phones, process admissions, discharges, transfers, transcribe orders, assemble charts and order tests.
• Set up and maintain patient rooms; order and stock supplies.

Job description

Job Overview

The University of Minnesota Medical Center - East Bank Campus is looking for a passionate and hardworking Nursing Station Technician to join our Cardiac Med/Surg IMC unit.

Our 38-bed unit helps adult patients with heart conditions, heart and lung transplants, surgeries, chest pains, heart failures and rhythm issues.

This position works 24 hours per 2 week pay period (.3FTE) on the evening shifts (3pm-11:30pm), 8 hour shifts, and every other weekend rotation.

In this role, you will work under the direct supervision of a professional nurse to demonstrate excellent customer service, teamwork and communication skills with patients, families, and the healthcare team on a fasted paced unit. Other job duties include:

• Patient care tasks such as personal hygiene, vitals, daily activities, repositioning, transporting, and feeding
• Maintaining unit desk area functions such as answering phones, processing admissions, discharging and transferring forms, transcribing orders, assembling patient charts and ordering tests
• Setting up and maintaining patient rooms
• Ordering and stocking of supplies
• Keywords: NST / NA / HUC

Required Qualifications:

• Basic Life Support (BLS for Healthcare Providers) certification required. Ontrack participants needs to acquire the certification upon completion of the OnTrack program.

And one of the following:

• Successful completion of Fairview's OnTrack Nursing Assistant training program or another Fairview sponsored Nursing Assistant program.

Or

• Six months of recent direct care experience in a long term, home care or acute care setting. (Appropriate roles may include, Nursing Assistant, PCA, Resident Assistant or Emergency Room Technician)

Or

• Current enrollment in an LPN, RN or Nurse Practitioner program, and completion of one (1) semester of clinical rotation within the program

Or

• Current certification on the Minnesota Nursing Assistant Registry upon hire. This requirement does not need to be maintained throughout employment and is not required if subsequently transferring into another Nursing Assistant or Nursing Station Tech

Preferred Qualifications:

• Previous experience as a Health Unit Coordinator, Nursing Assistant, or other related experience
