Job summary

The Iowa State Penitentiary in Fort Madison, Iowa, seeks a Nursing Services Director to lead Health Services, supervise staff, and drive development, implementation, and revision of institutional Health Services Procedures. Qualifications

• Bachelor's Degree in Nursing and 3 years supervisory/management nursing experience.
• Master's Degree in Nursing and 1 year supervisory/management nursing experience.
• Equivalent combination of education and experience; substitution rules apply; no substitution for 3 years of supervisory nursing experience.

Job description

• Supervises and evaluates the work of subordinate staff;
• Effectively recommends personnel actions related to selection, disciplinary procedures, performance, leaves of absence, grievances, work schedules and assignments.
• Administers personnel and related policies and procedures. Keeps accurate tie keeping of all employees of the health services area.
• Directs Health Services to assure achievement of optimal level of care to offenders to meet care standards.
• Establishes and maintains guidelines for staffing within the health care agency to assure adequate nursing coverage for all offender areas. Maintains a nursing schedule to cover the institution 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

• Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Bachelor's Degree in Nursing and experience equal to three years of full-time supervisory/management nursing experience.
• Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Master's Degree in Nursing and experience equal to one year of full-time supervisory/management nursing experience.
• An equivalent combination of the required education and experience, substituting one year of experience for thirty semester hours or equivalent of education; no substitution for three years of full-time supervisory/management nursing experience.
