Job summary

Iowa Department of Corrections is hiring an RN for the Women’s Intake Center to deliver essential healthcare within a secure environment. You will assess patients, provide clinical care, and collaborate with a multidisciplinary team to meet physical and mental health needs.

Shifts run 1pm–11pm or 9pm–7am with a 2–3 day block off, every other weekend. A $3,000 sign-on bonus is available and licensure requirements must be met for Iowa or compact states.

Qualifications

  • Active Iowa RN license or compact license with Iowa licensure within 60 days.
  • Strong attention to safety protocols and crisis response in a correctional setting.
  • Willingness to work 10‑hour shifts and rotate days off as assigned.

Responsibilities

  • Perform patient and staff health appraisals and conduct health clinics.
  • Perform examinations, document visits and assist in patient record management.
  • Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams on health needs including mental health and medications.
  • Respond to medical emergencies and provide hands-on care.
  • Maintain supplies, assist with labs (UAs, EKGs) and support telemedicine/x-ray services.
  • Ensure accurate medication administration and documentation per policy.

Work/life balance is very important to us. We offer 10-hour shift scheduling with 2-3 days off in a row without working more than 3-4 days.

The shifts we currently have available are 1pm-11pm and 9pm-7am with days off as assigned including every other weekend.

Key Responsibilities
  • Perform patient and staff health appraisals and conduct health clinics.
