Job summary

State of Iowa seeks a Nursing Services Director at the Iowa State Penitentiary in Ft Madison to lead and develop the Health Services team, implement institutional procedures, and participate in committees promoting effective leadership across departments.

You will supervise staff, revise Health Services procedures, and contribute to a culture of mutual respect and safety for incarcerated individuals, supporting safer communities.

Qualifications

• Minimum: Bachelor's Degree in Nursing with at least 3 years of full-time supervisory/management nursing experience.
• Alternatively: Master's Degree in Nursing with at least 1 year of supervisory/management nursing experience.
• Equivalents accepted: substitute years of experience for education per policy.

Responsibilities

• Supervise and evaluate subordinate staff performance.
• Recommend personnel actions related to selection, discipline, performance, leaves, grievances, schedules and assignments.
• Administer health services policies and maintain accurate personnel records for the health services area.
• Direct Health Services to ensure optimal care for offenders and maintain 24/7 nursing coverage across all areas.

In this position you will be expected to positively supervise and evaluate subordinate staff. Along with leading the department you will be responsible for development, implementation and revision of institutional Health Services Procedures. Minimum Qualification Requirements

• Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Bachelor's Degree in Nursing and experience equal to three years of full-time supervisory/management nursing experience;
• Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Master's Degree in Nursing and experience equal to one year of full-time supervisory/management nursing experience;
• An equivalent combination of the required education and experience, substituting one year of experience for thirty semester hours or equivalent of education; no substitution for three years of full-time supervisory/management nursing experience.

Additional Qualification Requirements
