HCA Trainee
POSITION SUMMARY
This position offers paid training requiring 75 hours over 120 days to obtain an HCA license from the state. When not in training, the HCA Trainee will assist caregivers throughout the community as assigned.
The Home Care Aide (HCA) Trainee provides quality nursing care to residents, promoting resident rights, dignity, and independence, while offering personalized attention and encouraging residents to maintain or improve their physical, mental, and psychosocial well-being. The role involves promptly and courteously responding to residents' call lights.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
- Learns caregiver responsibilities through the training program, including completing study assignments.
- Observes caregivers and practices learned skills with residents as directed.
- Ensures care plans are followed, providing updates and observations to nursing staff regarding residents' needs and preferences.
- Attends to individual resident needs as per care plans, including grooming, bathing, hygiene, feeding, incontinent care, toileting, and mobility assistance.
- Maintains skin integrity to prevent pressure ulcers and skin damage by repositioning residents and applying moisturizers.
- Protects and reports the loss of residents' personal belongings.
- Performs tasks such as taking vital signs, collecting specimens, and assisting with mobility using proper techniques.
- Documents care and other information in accordance with policies, following safety and infection control procedures.
- Communicates effectively with residents, families, visitors, peers, and supervisors.
- Follows safety protocols, fire/disaster plans, and reports unsafe conditions or equipment needs.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS & SKILLS
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Ability to read, write, speak, and understand English
- Current First Aid and CPR certification
- Food handler's card
- Criminal background and fingerprint clearance
- Basic computer skills and willingness to learn company applications
- Compassion and interest in working with seniors
- Flexibility to work weekends, holidays, and overtime
- Positive communication skills with residents and team members
- Problem-solving abilities in resident care
- Maintains a clean, safe, and comfortable environment
- Meets health requirements mandated by state regulations
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
