Job summary

Legacy Healthcare in Mount Pleasant, IA is seeking an experienced Director of Nursing (DON) to lead our nursing department and ensure the highest standards of resident care.

The DON will oversee clinical operations, staffing, quality improvement, infection prevention, documentation, care planning, and survey readiness across the facility, while developing a strong, supportive team committed to exceptional patient outcomes.

Qualifications

• Current registered nurse license in the state of employment.
• Previous DON or senior nursing leadership experience preferred.
• Strong experience in skilled nursing or long-term care.
• Excellent leadership and communication skills.
• Ability to recruit, develop, and retain nursing staff.

Responsibilities

• Direct and oversee all nursing department operations.
• Provide leadership to RNs, LPNs/LVNs, CNAs, and other staff.
• Establish and maintain high standards of resident care.
• Monitor outcomes and identify improvement opportunities.
• Conduct clinical rounds and remain visible on the floor.
• Oversee staffing, scheduling, and nursing coverage.
• Develop and mentor nurse leaders and staff.
• Prepare the nursing department for state surveys and CMS reviews.
• Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local requirements.
• Lead QAPI and quality improvement initiatives.
