Job description

Compensation: $55,000 - $60,000 for a 10‑month annual work period. This is an exempt, regular full‑time position (Grade E03).

Position Summary

The position is responsible for providing instructional support, coaching, referrals to other college resources, evaluating student progress, and preparing written evaluations. Additional duties include attending school and department meetings, maintaining tutoring center hours, and performing other tasks assigned by the program director.

Major Duties

• Develop and implement individualized tutoring plans for students.
• Collaborate with faculty on course content, assessment tools, delivery methodology, learning management systems, and other learning software.
• Coordinate with student services to provide non‑academic resources.
• Document and track tutoring sessions, determine if interventions were successful, and report back to faculty.
• Research, gather data, and prepare reports on student retention, interventions, and success rates.
• Perform related duties.

Knowledge and Skills Required

• Knowledge consistent with an experienced Registered Nurse.
• Familiarity with nursing program requirements and policies.
• Knowledge of psychomotor skills associated with nursing.
• Understanding of basic teaching and learning methodology.
• Knowledge of the learning management system and other required technology.
• Understanding of nursing curriculum and assessment.
• Knowledge of student support services available at San Juan College.
• Knowledge of college policies and procedures.
• Skill in operating computers and job‑related software programs.
• Skill in decision making and problem solving.
• Skill in interpersonal relations and dealing with the public.
• Skill in working effectively with diverse constituencies.

Supervisor and Controls

The Nursing Department Director assigns work with general instructions. The supervisor spot‑checks completed work for its nature and propriety.

Complexity and Scope of Work

The work involves multiple variables regarding student learning, barriers, content, and skills. The variety of student needs and high level of collaboration required contribute to the position’s complexity. The goal is to increase retention and completion of nursing students.

Contacts

Typical contacts include co‑workers, other college personnel, faculty, staff, students, and members of the general public.

Physical Demands and Work Environment

Work is performed mainly at a desk, with occasional standing or stooping, and may involve lifting light objects. The work takes place in an office setting.
