Compensation: $15.00 - $18.75 per hour, up to 29 hours per week.
Employment Type: Temporary (Fixed Term).
Grade: NE02.

Position Summary
The Tutoring Program at San Juan College seeks individuals willing to support students from diverse socio‑economic, cultural, ethnic, and linguistic backgrounds. The role involves both face‑to‑face and remote tutoring across a wide range of subjects. Work hours are flexible and may include weekend, evening, online, or branch campus assignments.
Duties & Responsibilities
- Assist students in learning and understanding course material within the tutor's content area(s) to foster independent, self‑reliant learning.
- Work with individual students and small groups; may be embedded in course sections for homework or test prep.
- Attend all scheduled trainings (Friday afternoons 12:30‑3:00) and any additional training assigned.
- Track and submit work time, tutoring hours, and session notes for department record keeping.
- Represent the Tutoring Center professionally in appearance, communication, and conduct.
- Prepare and deliver additional responsibilities such as class visits, promotional activities, and the creation of instructional materials.
Content Expertise Required
- Mathematics: All levels from Pre‑algebra through Calculus III; specialized statistics or career‑specific math.
- Sciences: Biology, Chemistry, Anatomy & Physiology, Physics, Geology, Engineering, Health Care Sciences.
- Trades & Technologies: Energy, Trades, or Technology classes.
- Writing & Humanities: English, Reading, other Humanities courses.
- Languages: Navajo, Spanish, German, French, Russian, American Sign Language.
- Business: Accounting, Economics, Computer Science, Business, Marketing.
Qualifications
- Advanced knowledge in the discipline of interest (Associate's degree or higher, or equivalent specialized experience).
- Successful completion of relevant courses in the discipline.
- Two (2) recommendations from faculty or previous employer.
- Clear communication skills for academic tutoring.
- GPA of at least 3.0 in the courses tutored (must have earned a "B").
- Experience teaching or tutoring in a multicultural environment.
- Experience in secondary or post‑secondary settings; college‑level courses in writing, foreign languages, science, business, or math.
- Knowledge of diverse learning preferences and experience with students of varied abilities.
