Job summary

Baptist Health is seeking a Nursing Assistant / Transport for the Same Day Surgery unit on a full-time schedule from 11:00 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. This role supports patient care and coordinates pre- and post-operative duties to ensure smooth procedures.

Responsibilities include taking vital signs, assisting with hygiene, transporting patients with safety measures, handling specimens, and supporting the RN in daily operations. Baptist Health offers competitive benefits and growth opportunities.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED is required.
• BLS certification must be obtained within 90 days of hire.
• Experience in basic patient care is a plus but not required.

Responsibilities

• Accurately takes vital signs as directed by RN.
• Performs 12 lead EKGs on patients.
• Transports patients to and from procedures with side rails up.
• Verifies patient identity using two identifiers (name and DOB).
• Assists with phlebotomy venipuncture and specimen handling as directed by RN.
• Delivers specimens to lab and ensures proper labeling.
• Obtains supplies and medications as directed by RN.

Summary

Nursing Assistant / Transport - Same Day Surgery

Full-Time 11a - 7:30p

The Nursing Assistant supports the Same Day Surgery department by assisting with patient care, pre- and post-operative duties, and the safe, timely transport of patients to and from the Surgery department.

• Accurately takes vital signs as directed by Registered Nurse.
• Performs 12 lead EKGs on patients.
• Transports patients to and from procedures with side rails up.
• Verifies patient identity using two patient identifiers (name and DOB) prior to transport.
• Demonstrates ability to perform phlebotomy venipuncture using two patient identifiers and appropriate handling of specimens.
• Delivers specimens to appropriate lab department and ensures specimen is labeled appropriately as needed.
• Retrieves blood/tissue from lab as requested.
• Performs patient care equipment cleaning after each use and documents weekly per policy.
• Appropriately gives tap water enemas to patients under direction of the Registered Nurse.
• Assists patients with personal hygiene as directed by Registered Nurse.
• Obtains stocks and/or transports supplies, including medications, kits and IV fluids as directed by the RN.

Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent (GED).
• Basic Life Support (BLS) required within 90 days of hire.
