Job summary

Lake Charles Memorial Hospital is seeking a Nursing Assistant to provide safe, compassionate patient care under the direction of a licensed nurse, while learning and applying hospital charting technology.

You will assist with activities of daily living, monitor vital signs, communicate changes to the team, and support unit initiatives to improve patient outcomes and service excellence.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.
• Completion of an approved Nursing Assistant training program preferred.
• Prior hospital experience may substitute education requirement.
• CPR certification preferred.
• Basic computer skills and ability to communicate professionally.

Responsibilities

• Demonstrates competency in use of technology and computers for patient charting and related functions.
• Provides physical patient care under the direction of the Licensed Nurse.
• Assists with activities of daily living (showering, bathing, dressing, feeding).
• Communicates abnormal variances of data (vital signs, pain, etc.) to appropriate staff.
• Collects information regarding patient condition, vital signs, intake and output, food intake.
• Participates in huddles, hourly rounding, bedside reporting, and Service Excellence using white boards.
• Collaborates with unit staff to provide coordinated patient care.
• Utilizes unit-specific equipment competently.
• Competently performs unit-specific procedures.
• Participates in Unit PI plan implementation and suggests operational improvements.
• Follows established hospital/department safety policies.

DESCRIPTION OF POSITION

The Nursing Assistant provides physical patient care in a safe manner under the direction of the Licensed Nurse

SUPERVISION

Reports directly to Nurse Manager andor Charge Nurse

RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES

• Demonstrates competency in use of technology and computers for patient charting and related functions
• Provides physical patient care in a safe manner under the direction of the Licensed Nurse
• Performs or assists patient with activities of daily living showering bathing dressing feeding activity
• Communicates abnormal variances of data vital signs pain etc to appropriate staff
• Collects information regarding patientpatient condition vital signs intake and output food intake
• Consistently utilizes basic decision making skills to complete routine tasks
• Participates in best practices in a consistent and positive manner; huddles hourly rounding bedside reporting Service Excellence and the use of the white boards
• Collaborates with unit staff to provide coordinated patient care
• Utilizes unit specific equipment competently
• Competently performs unit specific procedures
• Is knowledgeable of and actively participates in implementation of Unit PI plan
• Makes suggestionsrecommendations for improved operations
• Follows established hospitaldepartment safety policies

EDUCATION AND WORK EXPERIENCE

• High school graduate
• GED preferred
• Prior experience as a Nursing Assistant in a hospital setting may be used as a substitute to the education requirement
• Graduate of an approved Nursing Assistant Training Program preferred
• CPR certified preferredBaisc computer skills
• Ability to communicate professionally with patient family peers and medical personnel; ability to exercise independent judgment
• Requires emotional stability and maturity; must be adaptable to change be decisive and demonstrate foresight; exhibits organizational and leadership ability

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

• Work requires a variety of physical activities including moving about within and outside of all hospital properties for long periods of time
• Must be able to respond quickly and effectively to emergency and non emergent situations
• May be required to assist in controlling disorderly conduct or combative patients
• Must be able to exchange accurate information with patient family peers and medical personnel
