Job summary

Lake Charles Memorial Health is seeking a Nursing Assistant to provide essential patient care under the supervision of aLicensed Nurse. The role emphasizes safety, collaboration, and efficient unit operations throughout the shift.

Responsibilities include maintaining a clean unit, stocking rooms, communicating vital data, and supporting labor and surgical patient areas. Training in a Nursing Assistant program and CPR are preferred, along with good communication and adaptability.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED preferred.
• Graduate of an approved Nursing Assistant Training Program preferred.
• CPR certification preferred.
• Basic computer skills.
• Ability to communicate professionally with patient, family, peers and medical staff; exercise independent judgment.
• Emotional stability, adaptability to change, decisiveness and leadership ability.

• Collaborates with unit staff to provide coordinated patient care.
• Sets up ready rooms for labor, C-section, undelivered and surgical patients.
• Participates in huddles, AIDET, hourly rounding, bedside reporting and Service Excellence.

Job description

• The Nursing Assistant provides physical patient care in a safe manner under the direction of the Licensed Nurse.

SUPERVISION: Reports directly to Nurse Manager and/or Charge Nurse

RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:

• Works together, with Unit tech, nurse, ob tech to maintain cleanliness of the unit to include cleaning equipment for patient use.
• Stock medication room, infant cribs and epidural carts as needed with supplies.
• Communicates abnormal variances of data (vital signs, pain, etc.) to appropriate staff.
• Consistently utilizes basic decision making skills to complete routine tasks.
• Collaborates with unit staff to provide coordinated patient care.
• Sets up and communicates ready rooms for labor, C-section, undelivered and surgical patients.
• Participates in the following best practices in a consistent and positive manner: huddles, AIDET, hourly rounding, bedside reporting, Service Excellence, and the use of the white boards.

EDUCATION AND WORK EXPERIENCE

• High school graduate/GED preferred Prior experience as a Nursing Assistant in a hospital setting may be used as a substitute to the education requirement.
• Graduate of an approved Nursing Assistant Training Program preferred.
• CPR certified preferred.
• Basic computer skills.
• Ability to communicate professionally with patient, family, peers and medical personnel; ability to exercise independent judgment.
• Requires emotional stability and maturity; must be adaptable to change, be decisive, and demonstrate foresight; exhibits organizational and leadership ability.

Physical Demands/Work Environment

• Work requires a variety of physical activities, including moving about within and outside of all hospital properties for long periods of time.
• Must be able to respond quickly and effectively to emergency and non-emergent situations.
• May be required to assist in controlling disorderly conduct or combative patients.
• Must be able to exchange accurate information with patient, family, peers and medical personnel.
