Job summary

Select Specialty Hospital - Hampton Roads in Newport News, VA seeks a dedicated Nursing Assistant (NA) to provide compassionate patient care in a post-ICU setting. You will support patients with daily activities and care, under supervision, contributing to their recovery and comfort.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED, or 3+ years of relevant work experience.
• BLS certification required within 90 days of hire.
• Preferred: hospital experience as a nursing assistant or CNA certification or related field.

Responsibilities

• Assist patients with bathing, oral hygiene, feeding and hair care.
• Perform hourly rounds to monitor patient needs and safety.
• Transport patients to and from treatment areas and assist with mobility on stretchers or wheelchairs.
• Maintain cleanliness of bedpans, urinals, wheelchairs and patient rooms.
• Restock and maintain unit supplies; perform other duties as assigned.

• Perform services for patients including bathing using basin-less bath products, oral hygiene, oral feeding and care of hair
• Participate in hourly rounds
• Transport patients to and from various treatment centers when necessary, and assist transporters in moving patients in and out of stretchers and wheelchairs
• Maintain the cleanliness of various instruments and equipment such as bedpans, urinals and wheelchairs
• Keep patients’ rooms in clean and orderly condition
• Maintain unit stock levels of supplies and equipment as directed
• Performs other duties as assigned

Minimum Qualifications

• High school diploma/GED OR relevant work experience (3+ years)
• BLS is required within 90 days of hire

Preferred Qualifications

• Hospital experience as a nursing assistant, certification as a nursing assistant or experience in a related field (i.e. medical assistant, actively enrolled RN student)
