Job summary

UNC Health Care is seeking a Nursing Assistant I for the Inpatient Psychiatry Units at UNC Hospitals Youth Behavioral Health Facility (YBH) in Butner, NC. The role supports acute psychiatric stabilization for adolescents aged 12–15, under RN/physician supervision, with a focus on safety and therapeutic care.

Shifts are rotating with day coverage; full-time 36 hours per week across three 12-hour shifts. Must have NC Nursing Assistant I licensure and BLS; prior CNA experience preferred.

Qualifications

• Fluent in verbal and written English language.
• Basic computer skills suggested for use in hospital settings.

Responsibilities

• Assist physicians and other health care providers with routine examinations and procedures.
• Aids patients in reality orientation and participates in behavior modification plans/therapy.
• Observe, collect, and document patient information and report significant changes.
• Provide care and treatments per plan of care, including vital signs and basic nursing duties.
• Assist with admission, orientation, and discharge of patients and families.
• Provide direct personal care for activities of daily living as needed.
• Maintain a clean and organized work area, restock supplies, and assist with clerical tasks.
• Reinforce patient teaching and distribute educational materials.
