Job summary

UNC Health Nash Hospitals is seeking a Nursing Assistant I to provide routine direct and indirect patient care in hospital settings, under supervision of a registered nurse or physician. The role supports patient safety, comfort, and daily activities in the Nash UNC Health Care unit.

Responsibilities include assisting with exams and procedures, patient orientation, documentation, discharge support, and basic care tasks while maintaining clear communication with the care team.

Qualifications

• High School diploma or GED.
• Six months of nursing assistant experience or completion of a nursing assistant course.
• Fluent in English (verbal and written) and basic computer skills.

Responsibilities

• Assist physicians and other health care providers with routine examinations and procedures, and procure equipment during emergencies.
• In psychiatric settings, aid patients in reality orientation and participate in behavior modification plans/therapy; provide de-escalation and support.
• Observe, collect, and document patient information and report significant changes to a nurse or physician.
• Assist patients and families during admission, orientation, and discharge from the clinical setting.
• Provide care/treatments per plan of care, including vital signs, specimen collection, wound care, ROM and basic nursing tasks.
• Provide direct personal care for activities of daily living (bathing, dressing, feeding, ambulation).
• Assist in maintaining the work area, restocking supplies, and some routine clerical functions.
• Reinforce patient education and distribute materials to patients and families.
