Job summary

Essentia Health in Kentucky is seeking a compassionate patient care technician to provide direct patient care under RN supervision. Responsibilities include personal hygiene support, meals assistance, vital signs, and safe patient transfers.

You will maintain a clean, safe environment and document care accurately while adhering to Joint Commission standards and hospital policies. BLS is required within 3 months of hire; BCLS certification or ability to obtain within 1 month.

Qualifications

• Ability to provide personal hygiene care and assistance with nutritional needs.
• Under supervision of RN/Head Nurse to deliver safe patient care.
• Must obtain BLS certification within 3 months; CPR/BCLS certification within 1 month.

Responsibilities

• Provide comfort care and help with transfers.
• Take vital signs and complete recordkeeping.

Responsible for providing direct care to patients and serving the needs of patients in a manner conducive to their safety and comfort, under the direct supervision of a Registered Nurse, Nurse Manager, Assistant Head Nurse, and/or Department Director (possibly with guidance from an LPN) to contribute to meeting the mission and goals of Essentia Health. Duties will vary by patient care unit/department and include but are not limited to: Providing personal hygiene care, assisting with nutritional needs, providing comfort care and other assistance, appropriately and safely transferring patients, taking vital signs and completing recordkeeping, recognizing and promptly reporting changes in patient condition to the RN, and maintaining a safe, clean environment for patients to promote the healing process. Works within job scope to meet the requirements of the Joint Commission and other applicable federal, state and local regulatory and accrediting agencies

Licensure/Certification Qualifications:

• BLS certification required within 3 months of hire
• Current Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS) certification or ability to become certified within 1 month from date of hire.
