Job summary

The University of Toledo is seeking a Nursing Assistant for the Emergency Department (ED) to support RNs, LPNs, and Mental Health Technicians with delegated tasks and to help maintain a clean, safe unit.

This student position requires enrollment in an accredited nursing program (Associate, Bachelor, or Master) with completed fundamentals coursework and current BLS.

Shift options vary, weekend/holiday coverage required; starting salary listed at $19.56 per hour with rotating shifts.

Qualifications

• Student enrolled in an Associate, Baccalaureate, or Master’s degree nursing program.
• Has completed a nursing fundamentals course with check-offs or a clinical rotation.
• Current BLS certification.
• Able to write legibly, speak clearly, and follow directions.
• Physically able to perform tasks and lift up to 50 pounds.
• May rotate shifts and units.
• Physical requirements include vision 20/20, hearing, communication, dexterity, and CPR.

Job Description: Assists the Registered Nurse, Licensed Practical Nurse and MentalHealth Technician in providing delegated tasks on the nursing unit.Assists in maintaining a clean and orderly work area.

Minimum Qualifications

• 1. Student currently enrolled in Associate, Baccalaureate, orMasters Degree nursing program.
• 2. Has completed a nursing fundamentals course including check offs(Vitals, I&O, bed making, perineal care etc.) or a clinicalrotation.
• 3. Current BLS certification.
• 4. Ability to write legibly, speak articulately, and followdirections accurately. Finger and hand dexterity to handle delicateinstruments and other equipment.
• 5. Ability to plan and organize work and to work under closesupervision. Willingness to accept responsibility for patients intheir care when performing delegated functions of this position andto perform delegated duties in accordance with established methodsand procedures.
• 6. Ability to tolerate strenuous physical activity such as turning,stooping, bending, stretching, walking, and lifting in order toassist patients. Handles and serves patients in a manner conduciveto their welfare and safety.
• 7. May be required to rotate shifts and units.

• 9. Physical requirements:
  • a. visual acuity of 20/20 or corrected to 20/20 including colorvision when applicable;
  • b. ability to hear (with or without aides)
  • c. ability to orally communicate

  • f. ability to stand, walk frequently
