Job summary

Essentia Virginia Hospital is seeking a casual Nursing Assistant to provide direct patient care under the supervision of a Registered Nurse and nursing leadership. Duties include hygiene assistance, nutrition support, vital signs, and safe patient transfers, in line with Joint Commission standards.

The role requires a qualifying nursing assistant credential or clinical rotations, with BLS certification or ability to obtain within 1 month from hire. Shift rotations include Day/Eve/Night.

Qualifications

• Must meet ONE of the following requirements: 6 months of patient care experience; Completion of one semester of clinical rotations within an accredited nursing program; Verifiable completion of a recognized nurse aide training program; Current registration on applicable state nursing assistant registry.

Responsibilities

• Provide direct patient care under supervision to ensure safety and comfort.
• Assist with personal hygiene and nutritional needs; provide comfort and support.
• Take vital signs and document accurately; report changes to RN.
• Transfer patients safely and maintain a clean, safe environment.

Job Description

Responsible for providing direct care to patients and serving the needs of patients in a manner conducive to their safety and comfort, under the direct supervision of a Registered Nurse, Nurse Manager, Assistant Head Nurse, and/or Department Director to contribute to meeting the mission and goals of Essentia Health. Duties will vary by patient care unit/department and include but are not limited to: Providing personal hygiene care, assisting with nutritional needs, providing comfort care and other assistance, appropriately and safely transferring patients, taking vital signs and completing recordkeeping, recognizing and promptly reporting changes in patient condition to the RN, and maintaining a safe, clean environment for patients to promote the healing process. Works within job scope to meet the requirements of the Joint Commission and other applicable federal, state and local regulatory and accrediting agencies.

Education Qualifications

Must meet ONE of the following requirements:

• 6 months of patient care experience
• Completion of one semester of clinical rotations within an accredited nursing program

This position is casual.
