Job summary

Essentia Health in Brainerd and Baxter, Minnesota, is seeking a Nursing Assistant to provide direct patient care under RN supervision. The role requires 32 hours per week with rotating 8-hour shifts (day and evening) and alternating weekends, contributing to a patient-centered care team in a hospital setting.

Responsibilities include helping with hygiene, nutrition, and comfort, recording vital signs, and maintaining safety and cleanliness while reporting changes to the RN.

Qualifications

• Must have 6 months of patient care experience
• Must complete one semester of clinical rotations
• Must complete EH Nursing Assistant training within 1 month of hire
• Must have nurse aide training completion
• Must be registered on state nursing assistant registry

Responsibilities

• Provide direct care to patients under supervision of RN/manager
• Assist with personal hygiene and nutritional needs
• Take vital signs and document accurately
• Ensure patient safety and comfort and maintain a clean environment
• Escalate changes in patient condition to RN promptly

Education

6 months of patient care experience

Completion of one semester of clinical rotations within an accredited nursing program

Successful completion of an EH provided Nursing Assistant training within one month of hire

Verifiable completion of a recognized nurse aide training program

Current registration on applicable state nursing assistant registry

Education Qualifications:

Must meet ONE of the following requirements:

• 6 months of patient care experience
• Completion of one semester of clinical rotations within an accredited nursing program
• Successful completion of an EH provided Nursing Assistant training within one month of hire
• Verifiable completion of a recognized nurse aide training program
• Current registration on applicable state nursing assistant registry

This position MUST be able to work the following:

• 32 hours/week
• Every Other Weekend
• Rotating 8 Hour Shifts
• Day Shift: 7:00AM - 3:30PM
• Evening Shift: 3:00PM - 11:30PM

As a Nursing Assistant, you are responsible for providing direct care to patients and serving the needs of patients in a manner conducive to their safety and comfort, under the direct supervision of a Registered Nurse, Nurse Manager, Assistant Head Nurse, and/or Department Director (possibly with guidance from an LPN) to contribute to meeting the mission and goals of Essentia Health. Works within job scope to meet the requirements of the Joint Commission and other applicable federal, state and local regulatory and accrediting agencies.

Duties will vary by patient care unit/department and include but are not limited to:

• Providing personal hygiene care, assisting with nutritional needs
• Providing comfort care and other assistance
• Appropriately and safely transferring patients
• Taking vital signs and completing recordkeeping
• Recognizing and promptly reporting changes in patient condition to the RN
• Maintaining a safe, clean environment for patients to promote the healing process.

Licensure/Certification Qualifications:

• BLS certified or ability to become certified within 1 month from hire date.
