Job summary

A local parish is seeking a part-time Nursery/Child Care Worker to provide childcare during services and organize recreational activities. Candidates should have experience in childcare and be CPR certified. This role requires good interpersonal skills and may involve lifting infants up to 30 pounds. Hourly shifts on Sunday mornings are available.

Responsibilities

Overview

St. Philip the Apostle Catholic Church, located in historic downtown Franklin, TN, about 20 miles south of Nashville, is a well-established parish of over 2,000 families. They are seeking candidates for the position of Nursery/Child Care Worker. This is a part-time position, scheduled based on the needs of the parish.

Successful candidates will fill one or both of these shifts:

1. Sunday Morning 8:15AM to 10:30AM
2. Sunday Morning 10:30AM to 12:30PM

Responsibilities

1. Provide childcare during church services and/or church-sponsored functions.
2. Organize and participate in age-appropriate recreational activities, such as reading, playing games, etc.
3. Change diapers as necessary.
4. Ensure that children have a safe nurturing environment during their stay in the nursery.
5. Ensure that the nursery area and toys are kept clean and in safe condition.
6. Organize and store toys and materials to ensure order in activity areas.
7. Perform housekeeping duties (re‑organizing room, wiping down tables, removing trash).
8. Sanitize toys and play equipment, under direction of nursery coordinator.
9. Ensure that restroom facilities are left clean and in good order after use by children.
10. Remove trash/diapers from nursery at the end of each day.
11. Performs other duties as assigned.

Education and/or Experience:

1. Prefer some education and or experience in Child Development, Child Care, or Early Childhood Education.
2. Prefer some prior experience working with parents, other care givers, and children.
3. Satisfactorily completed an infant/child CPR course.

Additional Skills or Requirements:

1. Must have good interpersonal skills and be able to interact with children, parents and co-workers.
2. Self motivated with willingness to work under general direction and supervision.
3. Must be willing to submit to and satisfactorily complete a criminal background screening and to review diocesan Safe Environment training.
4. Satisfactorily completed an infant/child CPR course and maintained certification.
