Job summary

Thompson is seeking a Nurse Supervisor to lead pediatric/psychiatric programs across the Carolinas and nearby states. The role requires a BSN, an active NC RN license, and proven supervisory experience to coach staff, coordinate treatment teams, and ensure compliant, high-quality care for youth and families.

You will manage 24/7 or daily nursing coverage across PRTF and Crisis Stabilization settings, drive CQI, and foster a collaborative environment with Medical Directors and stakeholders.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Nursing is required.
  • Registered nurse license must be in good standing with the NC Board of Nursing.
  • Must have a valid driver’s license.
  • Verified 3 years of work experience as a high‑performing individual contributor in a related field.
  • Supervisory/leadership experience preferred.
  • Experience in pediatrics or psychiatry preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Provide proactive coaching and feedback to ensure professional development of direct reports.
  • Set programmatic objectives, define roles, and prioritize tasks for staff.
  • Communicate effectively across all directions to meet program needs.
  • Recruit, interview and select top‑tier talent for program staff.
  • Conduct thorough, well‑documented performance assessments of direct reports.
  • Address performance issues and manage staffing to meet objectives.
  • Foster an open, collaborative team environment with strong teamwork.
  • Ensure CQI processes and program data/outcomes meet standards.
  • Coordinate with stakeholders to represent program needs.
  • Serve as role model for professionalism and teamwork across the organization.
  • Respond to medical concerns and coordinate with Medical Director.
  • Coordinate with medical staff to address member needs and treatment team meetings.

What will you do as a Nurse Supervisor?
  • Proactive coaching and feedback to ensure professional development and growth of direct reports.
  • Setting programmatic objectives, defining roles, and prioritizing tasks for direct reports.
  • Effective proactive communication in all directions (up, down, sideways) to ensure program needs are met.
  • Recruit, interview and select top‑tier talent for program staff.
  • Conduct thorough and well‑documented assessments of direct reports’ performance.
  • Proactively address performance issues and replace team members who consistently fall short of delivering on their objectives.
  • Create an open and trusting environment where teamwork and collaboration are valued.
  • Compliance with the agency Continuous Quality Improvement (CQI) process to ensure program data and outcome goals are met.
  • Ensure internal and external standards are met regarding records, documentation and general services provided.
  • Coordinate and liaison with internal and external stakeholders to represent the program and its needs.
  • Act as a role model across the organization for other staff regarding professionalism, positivity and teamwork.
  • Respond to client/parent/guardian medical complaints/concerns.
  • Serve as point of contact for proactive communications with the Medical Director.
  • Coordinate with internal and external medical stakeholders to address member‑specific needs.
  • Support and coordinate treatment team meetings and medical rounds for the Psychiatric staff as needed.
  • Manage the nursing schedule so that there is 24/7 nursing coverage of PRTF facilities, or sufficient daily coverage for Crisis Stabilization programs.
  • Facilitate and/or coordinate medication administration training for direct care and nursing staff.
  • Monitor compliance with medication administration procedures, MAR and Med Order documentation, and medication storage.

Requirements
  • Must have a valid driver’s license.
  • Meet any credentialing, licensing and privileging standards as it pertains to the program(s) they lead.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Nursing is required.
  • Supervisory experience preferred.
  • Experience in pediatrics or psychiatry preferred.
  • Registered nurse license must be in good standing with the NC Board of Nursing.
  • Verified 3 years of work experience as a high‑performing individual contributor in a related field.
  • Exposure to leadership/management experiences either through short‑term project management, coordination, training or actual leadership positions.
  • Displays the capacity/coachability for future growth and development as a leader.
Physical demands

While performing the duties of this job, employees are required to walk, sit, use hands to handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls; reach with hands and arms; talk and hear. Vision abilities required by the job include close vision, distant vision, color vision, peripheral vision, and depth perception. Employees will perform a wide variety of physical tasks such as standing, walking, running, stooping, bending, climbing stairs and lifting of individuals, which requires strength, coordination, endurance, and agility. The employee must be agile enough to control and rapidly extricate himself/herself and children and youths from buildings in case of an emergency. The employee must be capable of running a distance as required in the apprehension of a fleeing youth.
