The Thomas B. Finan Center is an inpatient psychiatric hospital located in Cumberland, Maryland. It is owned and managed by the state of Maryland.� This state psychiatric facility operates 88 beds. The Finan Center provides services to persons who are 18 years of age and older.

Main Purpose of Job

The Nurse Practitioner Psych position will provide psychiatric services to the residents of The Thomas B. Finan Center. This position is responsible for establishing medical/psychiatric diagnoses, ordering and planning therapy, assessing and managing minor physical and psychological problems, ordering labs, and providing guidance and instruction in health maintenance and disease prevention in conjunction with physicians, pharmacists, and supporting nursing staff.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education:� � Determined by the Maryland State Board of Examiners of Nurses under the certification requirements for Nurse Practitioner, Psychiatric.

Experience: �Determined by the Maryland State Board of Examiners of Nurses under the certification requirements for Nurse Practitioner, Psychiatric.��

Note: Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military service experience as a commissioned officer in Nurse Practitioner, Psychiatric classification or�Nurse Practitioner, Psychiatric specialty codes in the Nursing field of work on a year-for-year basis for the required experience.

DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

The desired candidate should possess the following:

  • Experience with psychiatric patients/residents.�
  • Knowledge of or experience with assessing the physical, emotional, and social needs of patients/residents.

  • 1. Candidates for positions in this classification must possess a current certificate as a Nurse Practitioner, Psychiatric from the Maryland State Board of Nursing,�4140 Patterson Avenue, Baltimore, Maryland 21215.
  • 2. Employees in this classification may be assigned duties which require the�operation of a motor vehicle. Employees assigned such duties will be required�to possess a motor vehicle operator’s license valid in the State of Maryland.
