Job summary

Cape Cod Hospital is seeking an experienced Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant to provide overnight coverage for the Hospitalist service in Hyannis, MA. The role includes cross-cover, bedside evaluation of acute changes, and admission management under supervision of the nocturnist physician.

Applicants should hold MSN with MA NP/PA licensure, BLS/ACLS, and DEA/MCSR registrations. Two years of adult medical patient experience is required; per diem night shifts include weekends and holidays.

Job description

Purpose of Position:

Provide general internal medicine services for patients admitted to the Hospitalist service

Description

• Provide overnight clinical coverage for Hospitalist service patients, including cross-cover management, bedside evaluation for acute changes in condition, initial assessment and management of urgent clinical issues, and appropriate escalation of care to the supervising nocturnist physician. Upon request and under supervision of in-house admitting physician, perform admission evaluation and manage new patients from the emergency department as well as provide internal medicine consultative services..
• Coordinate care with appropriate specialty physicians.
• Maintain complete and accurate documentation of clinical work performed.
• Maintain all necessary certifications and CCH medical staff appointment as an allied health provider.
• Collaborate closely with the attending hospitalist physician. The mid-level’s scope of practice can never exceed the scope of practice of the immediate physician supervisor.
• Ability to work well under pressure, be patient-focused, work independently, and know when and how to ask for help.

Education/Experience/Training (np)

• (MSN) - A Master of Science in Nursing or higher
• (CNP) - Currently licensed as a Certified Nurse Practitioner in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts
• (BLS) - Basic Life Support certification (obtain within 30 days, offered within)
• (ACLS) – Current Advanced Cardiac Life Support certification
• (DEA) – US Department of Justice DEA Registration (required if prescribing)
• (MCSR) - Massachusetts Controlled Substance Registration (required if prescribing)
• Two years’ experience as NP or PA caring for adult medical patients

Education/Experience/Training (pa)

• (MPAS) - Masters from a program accredited by the ARC-PA
• (PA) - Currently licensed as a Physician’s Assistant in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts
