Job summary

Huntsville Hospital seeks a Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant to deliver comprehensive direct patient care within a high-paced health system. The APP will perform patient histories, exams, and diagnostic testing, diagnose illnesses, and manage treatments while educating patients and families.

The role emphasizes collaboration with teams, ongoing quality improvement, and potential involvement in staff education and scholarly activities.

Qualifications

• Completion of a Nurse Practitioner Masters of Science in Nursing or Physician Assistant Masters Program.
• Successful completion of a national certification exam for NP/PA.
• Current registration with the Alabama Board of Nursing and/or Board of Medical Examiners.

Responsibilities

• Provide comprehensive direct patient care, including histories, physical exams, and diagnostic testing.
• Diagnose illnesses and prescribe pharmacologic and other treatments.
• Educate patients and families on health maintenance and promotion; support clinical research and quality improvement.

Job description

The nurse practitioner/physician assistant (APP) provides comprehensive direct patient care and scholarly practice including obtaining comprehensive patient histories, performing complete physical examination, ordering and performing diagnostic testing and screening, diagnosing illness, prescribing both pharmacological and other treatments for patients, and providing health maintenance and promotion interventions such as patient and family education and counseling. Also, the APP assumes accountability for indirect care responsibilities, which support patient care including staff and student education, clinical research if applicable, program development, and quality improvement. Assists in clerical functions as necessary.

Qualifications

Minimum Knowledge, Skills and Experience required:

Education required:

Completion of a Nurse Practitioner Masters of Science in Nursing or Physician Assistant Masters Program. Successful completion of a national certification exam for NP/PA.

License, certification and/or registration:

Current registration with the Alabama Board of Nursing and/or Board of Medical Examiners.

Additional skills/abilities:

Must have excellent communication skills with the ability to work in a fast-paced environment, requiring prioritizing and changing tasks frequently and quickly. Works well with others in a team environment. Previous experience with electronic medical records preferred
