Job summary

The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill School of Nursing is seeking a Clinical Preceptor to mentor graduate nursing students in real‑world health care settings, providing hands‑on guidance in diagnostic reasoning, assessment and patient management.

You will collaborate with faculty to ensure student success, support clinical education across specialties, and contribute to curriculum development within a premier academic medical environment.

Qualifications

• Active North Carolina professional license in applicable discipline.
• Minimum of one year of clinical practice prior to precepting.
• Clinical expertise relevant to the assigned specialty area.

Responsibilities

• Provide supervised, real‑world clinical learning experiences for nurse practitioner students.
• Offer guidance, mentorship, and clinical expertise to support students’ development of diagnostic reasoning, assessment, and patient management skills.
• Facilitate progressive student independence by assigning appropriate patient care responsibilities based on competency.
• Review and approve student findings, diagnoses, and treatment plans prior to patient discharge.
• Communicate regularly with assigned faculty regarding student progress, concerns, or questions.
• Complete required student evaluations at mid‑term and end of the clinical rotation.
• Maintain a supportive and professional learning environment that promotes compassionate, high‑quality patient care
