The Nurse Practitioner Preceptor serves as a clinical mentor and educator for graduate nursing students, providing hands‑on learning experiences in a real‑world healthcare setting. Preceptors play a vital role in supporting the clinical education, professional development, and competency of future nurse practitioners while collaborating with faculty to ensure student success.
Clinical supervision ranging from approximately 60-240 hours per semester, depending on course requirement.
Active North Carolina license in an applicable discipline (e.g., Physician, Nurse Practitioner, Certified Nurse Midwife, Physician Assistant, or LCSW for applicable programs).
Minimum of one year of clinical practice experience prior to precepting.
Clinical expertise relevant to the assigned specialty area (e.g., family medicine, pediatrics, psychiatry, etc.).
Prior teaching or precepting experience
Strong communication and mentoring skills
Commitment to advancing nursing education and workforce development
