The Collection Management Manager plays a key leadership role within the Collection Management department at Pierce County Library System (PCLS). This position supports the department in building and maintaining a diverse, accessible, and community-responsive collection. As a member of the Collection Management leadership group, the Collection Management Manager collaborates closely with colleagues across both the Collection Management and Customer Experience departments. Strong communication skills and a collaborative leadership style are essential, as the role involves facilitating discussions, leading meetings, and supporting team development.
In partnership with the Collection Management Director, this position helps identify strategic priorities, guide problem-solving efforts, and foster a culture of continuous learning. The successful candidate will demonstrate a commitment to equity, diversity, access, and inclusion (EDAI), and will be eager to apply these principles to all aspects of their work—from cataloging practices to team engagement. This role also contributes to identifying and coordinating training opportunities on a wide range of topics relevant to collection management.

Hiring Range: $98,069.91 - $113,686 annually; Pay Grade Range: $98,069.91 – $144,007 annually
Compensation
Pierce County Library System offers a compensation program which recognizes qualifications and experience relevant to each position. The starting pay is established typically within the hiring range below based upon the experience of the individual hired into the role. Our compensation package also includes annual increases for each additional year of experience and tenure in the role, up to the maximum (current year maximum outlined in pay grade range above). Eligibility for overtime is exclusive to positions which are FLSA status non-exempt below.

Manages the library’s collection management day-to-day operations and services, ensuring strategic alignment with system-wide goals. Oversees acquisitions, cataloging, digital resources, vendor relationships, staff and departmental operations. Supports community engagement, labor relations, and acts on behalf of the Director when needed.

Day-to-Day Collection Management Operations
Manages library collection activities including selection, maintenance, acquisitions, cataloging, and digital resources programs and services. Ensures department goals align with library-wide vision, initiatives, and service plans.

Leadership
Hires, trains, supervises, coaches, develops, engages, and evaluates the performance of assigned personnel in matters related to labor relations and the Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA). Manages labor relations and compliance with CBA. Ensures staff compliance with Library and departmental policies, procedures, service standards, regulatory requirements, and safety practices.

Operational Oversight
Manages departmental operations, budgets, resources, and vendor relationships. Oversee and manage vendor relationships and contractual agreements. Manages assigned budgets, participates in personnel hiring teams, writes reports and proposals, and participates in routine administrative tasks (e.g., meetings, procedural development).
