Job Description
Be a part of a world-class academic healthcare system, UChicago Medicine Care Network, as a Nurse Manager. This position is a 100% onsite opportunity. You will need to be based in the greater Chicagoland area.
This position is responsible for guiding clinical practice across all clinics and locations within the system, including onboarding of clinical staff, continuing education, annual competency assessments, ambulatory quality, regulatory compliance, policy/protocol development and review, and supporting new clinical workflows or implementations.
The Nurse Manager oversees daily operations, including scheduling, planning, organizing, and directing patient-centered care activities in the unit. Administrative duties include recruitment, supervision, purchasing, inventory management, and facility safety and equipment management.
Essential Job Functions
- Participates in staff recruitment and selection, determines staffing needs in consultation with physicians, and ensures proper scheduling to maintain quality care.
- Provides orientation and training for staff, evaluates and revises orientation plans as needed.
- Assists staff in identifying learning needs, promotes professional development, and encourages participation in educational activities.
- Assesses patient acuity to plan appropriate assignments for inpatients and outpatients.
- Evaluates staff performance regularly, completes performance reviews, and recommends merit increases.
- Handles interpersonal issues among staff, physicians, patients, and families.
- Ensures staff attend mandatory educational programs as per JCAHO regulations and participates in educational planning and delivery.
- Assists in testing and evaluating new equipment, procedures, and programs.
- Participates in review and development of policies, procedures, and standards.
- Collaborates with physicians and supervisors on patient care, conducts daily assessments, and implements care plans.
- Conducts environmental inspections and takes corrective actions as needed.
- Works with management on quality assurance and research protocols.
- Promotes safety and quality improvement initiatives.
- Assists in budget development, monitors expenditures, and promotes cost containment.
- Performs additional duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications
- Licensed as a registered nurse in Illinois.
- At least five years of nursing experience, with leadership experience preferred.
- Strong prioritization, independence, and judgment skills.
- High initiative and problem-solving abilities.
- Demonstrated clinical and leadership skills as a role model.
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor of Science in Nursing preferred; experience may substitute.
- Proficiency with UCH Information Systems (Epic, Last Word, OACIS).
- Ambulatory nursing experience.
- Two or more years in multi-specialty leadership roles.
