Job summary

University of Chicago Medicine in Chicago seeks an Assistant Patient Care Manager for the Pediatric Neurology/General Medicine/Med-Surg unit. This 100% onsite role requires you to oversee operations, patient flow, and quality audits on your shift, in collaboration with the Patient Care Manager.

You will lead staff, facilitate daily huddles, conduct performance conversations, and ensure safe, patient-centered care within budget.

Qualifications

• RN with a bachelor’s degree in nursing and eligible for licensure.
• Minimum two years of nursing experience with at least one year in the applying area.
• Charge nurse experience or equivalent leadership responsibilities required.
• Strong interpersonal communication across staff and leadership.

Responsibilities

• Participates in the interview and selection process of staff.
• Oversees orientation of new hires.
• Maximizes care efficiency and throughput.
• Monitors a budget (e.g. supplies).
• Participates in ongoing evaluation of productivity (Performance management).
• Assists with staff evaluations/MAX conversations.
• Monitors staff for fitness for duty.
• Initiates and delivers corrective actions (e.g. written warning).
• Staff development and education.
• Ensures competency validation.
• Supports leadership growth among staff.
• Staff retention and satisfaction assessment.
• Develops strategies to address satisfaction issues and recognition methods.
