Job summary

Virginia Commonwealth University Health is seeking a Nurse Extern for Summer 2027 at VCU Medical Center in downtown Richmond. Under supervision of a Registered Nurse, licensed independent practitioner, or manager, you will assist with direct and indirect patient care tasks and contribute to a collaborative care team.

Requirements include completion of the first semester junior year in a BSN program or equivalent, with potential for acute care experience.

Qualifications

• Completion of first semester junior year in a BSN program or equivalent.
• Associate Degree or Diploma programs: first year completed.
• AHA BLS HCP certification or equivalent is required for hire.
• Acute care experience preferred for nursing assistant or aide roles.

Responsibilities

• Assist with activities of daily living, comfort care, safety, and nutrition under supervision.
• Perform selected diagnostic and therapeutic tasks as directed by supervision.
• Maintain a clean, safe environment and ensure inventory of supplies and equipment.
• Participate in nursing in-services, patient conferences, and rounding with physicians.
