Job summary

HCA Healthcare is seeking a Nurse Extern student to gain hands-on experience while attending Nursing School for an RN degree. You will support the nursing team across our HCA Midwest Hospitals network, with opportunities to work at Belton Regional, Centerpoint Medical, Lee's Summit Medical Center, and more.

You will assist with ADLs, vital signs, wound care, and documentation, while learning under a preceptor to develop your skills and confidence for advanced responsibilities in the nursing

Qualifications

• Basic Cardiac Life Support (BLS) must be obtained within 30 days of employment start date.
• Must be actively enrolled in a Nursing program for RN; nursing fundamentals must be completed by start date and actively taking Nursing fundamentals to interview.

Responsibilities

• Provide essential care for patients by helping with ADLs, checking vital signs, supporting mobility, and ensuring comfort and hygiene.
• Perform nursing tasks like wound care, catheter care, collecting specimens, and other basic procedures as you gain experience.
• Document care accurately and communicate timely updates with the nursing team to keep patient care seamless and coordinated.
• Help patients and families understand their care plans and offer guidance for health and recovery.
• Keep patient areas clean and safe by following infection prevention practices, managing equipment, and maintaining an organized environment.
• Engage in learning opportunities, share ideas to improve care, and work with your supervisor to build your personal career development plan.
