Job summary

Meadowview Regional Medical Center in Kentucky seeks a Nurse Extern PRN to support direct patient care under the supervision of a Registered Nurse. You will document care, monitor patient status, and communicate with the care team while upholding professional standards.

You must be enrolled in an approved nursing program, a third-year student or higher, and graduate within 13 months of hire; Basic Life Support (BCLS) is required.

Qualifications

• Must be currently enrolled in an approved school of nursing and be a third year student or higher and graduate within 13 months of hire.
• Candidates must be in good standing with the approved school of nursing and clinically competent to perform these acts.
• Basic Life Support Health Care Provider (BCLS) Required.

Responsibilities

• Provide direct patient care under the supervision of a Registered Nurse.
• Document patient care provided and monitor patient condition.
• Communicate patient status to supervising RN and care team.
• Maintain professional relationships with patients, families, and staff.
• Assist patients with activities of daily living and coordinate across disciplines as needed.

How You'll Contribute

A Nurse Extern who excels in this role:

• Direct patient care under the direction, delegation and supervision of a Registered Nurse.
• Documents patient care given.
• Monitors, records, and communicates patient condition as appropriate to supervising RN.
• Maintains positive professional relationship with patient/ families, coworkers, and health care team.
• Assists patients with performing activities of daily living, including personal hygiene, elimination, nutrition, and ambulation.
• Collaborates as needed across disciplines to coordinate patient care, including patient transfer, discharge, referral and spiritual/psychosocial support needs. Evaluates learning needs of patient and/or family and provides patient/family education appropriate to age, culture, condition, and circumstances.
• Works as an advocate for the physical and emotional well-being of the patient.
